Formula 1 has not hosted a Grand Prix in Argentina since 1998 when the last race was held at Autódromo Oscar Alfredo Gálvez in Buenos Aires. However, Argentina has a rich history in Formula 1, having hosted races regularly since 1953. Juan Manuel Fangio, a five-time world champion, is considered one of the greatest drivers in the history of Formula 1 and is from Argentina. The country has also produced other notable drivers, such as Carlos Reutemann, who finished third in the drivers' championship twice in the 1970s, and José Froilán González, who won the first ever Formula 1 race for Ferrari at Silverstone in 1951. Despite no current plans to host a race in Argentina, there is still a passionate fan base for the sport in the country.
